New Albany, MS – 4/12/2013 – This year Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market will host Folk Art on the River every 2nd Saturday of Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market. June 8th, July 13th and August 10th. Hours for 2nd Saturdays will be 7 am to 12 pm. Local folk artists will have their art for sale. There will be a Wee Folk Hour from 10 am to 11 am. Activities for the kids will include a guided nature walk through the Arboretum with Sherra Owen, storytelling by the Tallahatchie River Players and a folk art craft. New Albany, MS – 5/24/2013 – Mary Jennifer Russell of Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market, Lisa James of the Union County Master Gardeners and Jean Ashcraft of Speak Green Mississippi recently attended a 2-day state-sponsored workshop where they were awarded a $3,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission. Their winning proposal “2nd Saturdays – Folk Art on the River” is an expansion of Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market. The expansion includes a folk art market, nature walks, children’s folk art craft, story telling, pickers art contest, agri-tours to local farms, community yoga and frisbee golf. (more…)

New Albany, MS 10/24/2012 - Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement toward more healthy, affordable and sustainable food. Food Day, created by Center for Science in the Public Interest, is powered by a diverse coalition of food movement leaders, organizations, and people from all walks of life. Food Day takes place annually on October 24 to address issues as varied as health and nutrition, hunger, agricultural policy, animal welfare, and farm worker justice. The ultimate goal of Food Day is to strengthen and unify the food movement in order to improve our nation’s food policies. (more…)
